Introduction
Layers Panel
The general purpose of layers is to indicate the depth and hierarchy of objects within content items. Therefore the layers visible in the Layers Panel, each directly correspond with an object within the Stage area. Besides the indication of depth and hierarchy, each layer displays a range of indicative attributes that describe the current state of the layer and the corresponding object. The order of the layers from top to bottom indicate the depth of layers. The layer on top has the highest depth and the layer at the bottom has the lowest depth. The depth of a layers can be modified by dragging the layer to another position within the list of layers.
The hierarchy of layers can be modified by dragging layers in or out of the parent layer. Layers that can serve as a parent are containing layers, such as groups, scrollers and modules. The type of the layer or object can be easily seen, as each layer has it’s own type icon. Whenever a layer has been selected, the corresponding object on the Stage area will be selected will show a blue marquee around the object to indicate it’s selected state. Upon the selection of the object the Property Panel will assume the name, properties and available options of the object.
Each layer has it’s own name, which can be used to identify the layer and the corresponding object. The name of the layer can be of you own choosing. It is recommended to name each layer so that you will be able to identify objects by the name of the corresponding layer.
Layers Panel
> Show/Hide Layer
Each layer has it’s own type icon, which indicates the type of the layer. The type icons correspond with icons that are commonly used to indicate the type of the object, for example in the Toolbar and Property Panel.
> Expand/Collapse Layer
Layers that support the use of sub-layers, such a groups and scrollers, have the ability to show or hide the contained layers. Toggling the arrow icon from a right hand-side pointing position to a downwards pointing position, allows you to switch between the expanded and collapsed state.
> Layer Type
Each layer has it’s own type icon, which indicates the type of the layer. The type icons correspond with icons that are commonly used to indicate the type of the object, for example in the Toolbar and Property Panel.
> Lock/Unlock Layers
Layers have the ability to be in a locked state. This means the object cannot be selected on the Stage, although it might be visible if it was not hidden by the Show/Hide Layer feature.
> Lock/Unlock Position
The option to lock the position of the object, allows you to lock the Position & Size features on the Property Panel as well as the positioning and resizing abilities of the Transform Tool and Selection Tool. This is especially useful when you want to make sure that object doesn’t move on the Stage area, without losing the ability to select the object and modify other properties. This feature is also used to indicate which objects are accessible in Restricted Editing.
> Exclude from Rendering
This feature allows you to keep an object on Stage area, but excluding it from the Viewer. This is especially useful when you want to keep an object for later use, without having to burden to Viewer with having to process it. Or when you want to exclude an unused Image or Video that consumes unnecessary bandwidth.
